THE retooled Petro Gazz Angels bested the BaliPure Water Defenders, 25-14, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, to open its campaign in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on a high note on March 17 at the Paco Arena and Sports Center.After a thrilling loss in the third set, the Angels came out firing in the fourth, taking an 8-4 lead. BaliPure kept on coming and pulled to within one but Cebuana spiker Grethcel Soltones anchored a 6-1 rally to give Petro Gazz a 20-14 advantage.Still, BaliPure kept within striking distance, 18-23, after a score by Janine Marciano. BaliPure, though, committed an error on the next play to put Petro Gazz at match point. It took a while before Petro Gazz would finish the game as the Angels committed one error after another before Aiza Maizo-Pontillas ended the game with a solid hit.
