PH loses to Turkmenistan in AFC Asian Cup qualifier

THE Philippines dropped its opening match in Group A of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup Qualifiers last Saturday night, Oct. 1, 2022, at the Prince Mohammed Stadium in Zarqa City, Jordan.Turkmenistan beat the Philippines, 2-0, from a brace by striker Annayev Enver.Enver hit the opening goal in the 20th minute from the penalty kick.He followed it up with another spot kick that hit the back of the net in the 64th minute.Meanwhile, host Jordan settled for a scoreless draw with Syria in the other Group A match.Turkmenistan took the top spot in Group A with three points, followed by Jordan and Syria with a point each. Idle Japan is fourth with no points, while the Philippines is last also with no points.The Philippines will be in a tough match in its next match as it takes on heavy favorite Japan on Monday night, Oct. 3, while Turkmenistan is up against Syria.
