PH women’s football team bags bronze in SEA Games

THE Philippines won a medal in women’s football for the first time in 37 years after bagging the bronze with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Myanmar in the 31st Southeast Asian Games last Saturday, May 21, 2022, in Vietnam.The Filipinas found themselves down early after Myanmar converted a penalty kick compliments of Win Theingi Tun in the 24th minute. However, the Philippines made a spirited comeback from Sarina Bolden and Quinley Quesada late in the match.Bolden hit the back of the net in the 73rd minute, while Quesada, who came off the bench in the bronze medal match, sealed it with a goal in the 76th minute.The Philippines won the bronze medal back in 1985 in the first-ever Women’s Football event in the SEA Games.On the other hand, the Philippines nabbed three gold medals in boxing. Olympian Eumir Marcial outclassed Timor-Leste’s Delio Anzaqeci Mouzinho by points, 5-0, for the men’s middleweight category.Rogen Ladon beat Vietnam’s Thao Tran Van, 3-2, in the men’s flyweight division finals, while Ian Clark Bautista schooled Myanmar’s Naing Latt via points, 5-0.
