Players rue VisMin Super Cup Mindanao leg suspension

The Mindanao leg of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup is scheduled to tip off on May 20 in Dipolog City. However, that plan has been left hanging after the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) suspended it following the farcical game that occurred between the Siquijor Mystics and the ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu City Heroes on April 14, 2021.

Sports patron and Chooks-to-Go president Ronald Mascariñas is questioning the reasoning behind the suspension of the Mindanao leg of the ongoing Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup.

“Coming from Mindanao, the decision hurts. I hope GAB reconsiders it,” said Mascariñas who hails from Butuan City.

JR Puerto, the former University of Cebu star who is set to play for Zamboanga del Sur, said it was disheartening to hear of the Mindanao leg’s suspension, especially during a time when he and other basketball players like him need a stable source of income.

Orvelle Saludsod, another former UC star who is set to play for the Pagadian Explorers, said he was disappointed especially since they’ve already put in so much to prepare for the upcoming tournament.

“The rest of us are being punished for what others did,” said Saludsod.

“I hope we get to play since this could provide new players with good exposure. We could showcase our talents, having the opportunity to play in the big leagues,” said Puerto.

“The league hasn’t even started yet and now you’ve suspended it?” Mascariñas added. “Is that how little you really think of us from Mindanao? There are a lot of investors and players there waiting for the chance to be a part of the league.” (JNP)
