A HABAL-HABAL driver was shot dead by an unidentified gunman on the national highway in Purok 1, Barangay Salvador, Cortes town in Bohol on Wednesday afternoon, September 14, 2022.The victim was identified as 35-year-old Edgar Acub, a resident of the neighboring town of Antequera.Corporal Rodel Dulay, investigator of the Cortes Police Station, told Superbalita Cebu that the victim was ferrying a female passenger from Tagbilaran City to Antequera. The passenger reportedly asked Acub to stop in Cortes so she could place a bet on the numbers game swertres. When they got to a Small Town Lottery outlet, the woman alighted while Acub stood by the side of the road.Dulay said witnesses saw a white van arrive and park in front of Acub. A passenger then shot at Acub several times. The van then sped off to the direction of Barangay Poblacion in the town.The incident happened at 5:15 p.m.Members of the Scene of the Crime Operation recovered two shells from a 5.56 rifle at the scene.According to Dulay, they are looking at three possible motives for the shooting: Acub’s alleged gambling habit, a love triangle and his being a former drug surrenderer.
