Police probe burials without a permit

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is looking into reports that a public cemetery in the city has been burying the dead even without the proper documentation which includes a permit from the Cebu City Health Department.

CCPO Deputy Director for Operations Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla stressed that there is a process that needs to be followed before a burial can be conducted.

Parilla checked on the public cemetery in Bliss, Barangay Labangon following a report that a secret burial was being held there.

“We received a report that there was a burial done there without clearance from the City Health. That’s why we sent our personnel to the cemetery to check,” Parilla said in Cebuano.

The CCPO is also looking into a report that niches at the Calamba cemetery were being torn down.

Parilla said while it is customary for public cemeteries to exhume the remains of the dead after five years and move their bones into a common area, the CCPO will nonetheless check on the report to clarify the matter.
