Public transportation assured at SRP

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-Central Visayas has assured there will be enough public transportation for the thousands of people expected to converge in Cebu for the 2023 Sinulog Festival grand parade on Sunday, Jan. 15.

LTFRB 7 Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. said they have coordinated with the Cebu City Transportation Office and the Executive Committee of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI).

He said the LTFRB is ready to issue special permits for some modernized public utility jeepneys to ply the South Road Properties (SRP) where the Sinulog grand parade will be held.

Montealto said the LTFRB also plans to tap some bus companies to provide transportation. He stressed, though, that commuters will need to pay the fare for the commercial buses.

SFI Chairman Cebu City Councilor Phillip Zafra said the whole stretch of Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) will be temporarily closed to traffic on the day of the Sinulog grand parade.

Emergency vehicles will be given a lane for them to pass.

Free rides

Zafra said buses owned by the Cebu City Government will also offer free rides from Plaza Independencia to the SRP and vice versa.

MyBus units will be deployed to help transport people during the Sinulog Festival.

Zafra said they have also asked for help from motorcycle ride-hailing company Angkas to ensure that the public will have transportation to and from the SRP. (LMY)
