Rama picks Dalugdog as city police chief

MAYOR Michael Rama has recommended a new police chief to lead the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) in the implementation of ‘Oplan Disiplina.’Rama told reporters Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, that he has selected Police Col. Ireneo Dalugdog to be the new CCPO Director.Rama said he is just waiting for Dalugdog’s official appointment from the Philippine National Police Headquarters in Camp Crame.Dalugdog is the current chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas.According to Rama, there were two other recommendations, but Dalugdog stood out during the interview process. Rama refused to name the two other prospects.“He (Dalugdog) went through a process. He was being interviewed by a panel and he was the one. There were three of them,” said Rama. The mayor added that Dalugdog was able to articulate what needs to be addressed when it comes to the city’s peace and order situation. However, Rama said the incoming CCPO chief still has to present a comprehensive program that will be in line with his executive order on Task Force Disiplina.Rama said big events like All Souls’ Day, Christmas Day and the Sinulog Festival are fast approaching and these would require stringent security measures.“My marching order is very simple: Do your job. Bring us the respect because you know your job. The Cebuanos, particularly Cebu City, are very hard to please,” said Rama in a mix of Cebuano and English. For his part, Police Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, deputy CCPO director for administration, said only the mayor knows who his choice would be to lead the city’s police.“So far, we don’t know anything about this with regard to the (mayor’s) request because this is confidential between the higher headquarters and the chief executive. But that is the prerogative of the chief executive,” said Parilla.Traditionally, Camp Crame submits a list of five candidates to the mayor’s office for his selection. The names would include the police officer-in-charge.If the mayor prefers someone who is not on the list, the mayor’s choice will be sent to Camp Crame for discussion by the Senior Officers Placement and Promotion Board before an order for the officer’s assignment is made. The CCPO is currently headed by Police Col. Ernesto Salvador Tagle who serves in an acting capacity after replacing former City Director Col. Josefino Ligan in January 2022. Logan is now assigned to the Quezon City Police District.
