Ravena atones for woeful performance in beatdown of Nagoya in B.League

FILIPINO basketball star Kiefer Ravena did not have to wait long for payback as he led the Shiga Lakestars to a 110-79 beatdown of the Nagoya Dolphins less than 24 hours after they were beaten by 39 points by the very same team in the B.League in Japan.

Ravena was keen on redeeming himself after he produced a dud of a game on a Saturday, where he made just one of his 13 attempts from the field. Redeem himself Ravena did as he tallied 16 points, and added nine assists, three rebounds and three steals to help Shiga avenge the lopsided defeat.

“We knew that we have to bounce back especially after a big loss against Nagoya yesterday,” Ravena said.

“We just wanted to play with our philosophy. Coach Luis (Guil Torres) has always told us to play hard, just stick to our system, and that’s what we did. I think we started way better than the way we started last game, so we had the mindset of just playing hard and playing together as a team,” he said.

Ravena added that their proficiency from three-point-country was a key part in their victory.

“I think one of the biggest factors was we were making our three-point shots. Last game we shot nine percent and that’s very bad,” shared Ravena as Shiga made 14 of their 30 attempts while Nagoya made just 4-of-21.

“But we just focused on our shots and we talked among each other as a team. We gave each other confidence and I think that’s why our shots fell in the first half for me and then in the second half for everybody else,” Ravena added as the Lakestars improved to 6-2 for the season. (JNP)
