Suspect Amiel Kayubat Dela Peña, who currently resides in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City, is believed to a member of the “Salisi Gang.”
Police said the gang’s modus operandi is to steal from people while they are distracted or who have left their belongings unattended.
According to Staff Sergeant Leodico Fegi of the Mabolo Police Station, who is handling the investigation, the alleged theft incident happened in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City.
Fegi said Dela Peña was with Juniel Casilid Langamin, a 30-year-old resident of the barangay, when the suspect excused himself saying he would urinate.
It turned out that his real aim was to take Langamin’s cellphone, the investigator said.
However, the suspect was caught by 27-year-old John Henry Godinez, who lives along A.S. Fortuna Street in Barangay Banilad.
After his arrest, Dela Peña admitted to police that he stole for a living. (BBT, PJB)
