TWO-TIME world champion Vic Saludar eyes another world title shot and faces former amateur standout Osacar Collazo in a World Boxing Organization (WBO) minimumweight title eliminator on July 17 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.The 31-year-old Saludar is eager to become a world champion again after losing his World Boxing Association (WBA) minimumweight strap to Erick Rosa by a close split decision last Dec. 21 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.Saludar has been a world champion twice in the 105-pound division. He won his first world championship belt in 2018 after dethroning Ryuya Yamanaka to claim the WBO minimumweight belt. He had a successful title defense against Masataka Taniguchi, the current WBO minimumweight champion, by a lopsided unanimous decision in 2019 before losing his belt to Wilfredo Mendez by unanimous decision later that year.Saludar’s second reign as world champion was in 2021 after he beat fellow Pinoy Robert Landero for the vacant WBA minimumweight belt. He lost his title in his first defense, against Rosa.If victorious, Saludar will become the mandatory challenger and will face Taniguchi in a rematch.The 25-year-old Collazo is quite new to the pro ranks. After a stellar amateur career, in which he won a gold medal in the Pan American Games in 2019, Collazo decided to turn pro in 2020. He was impressive in his pro debut and demolished Vicente Castro in three rounds. He also stopped Kevin Cruz in the second round that same year.Collazo continued to impress in 2021 and beat experienced Francisco Bonilla by unanimous decision. He followed that up with a third round technical knockout win over Pedro Villegas to claim the WBO Latino minimumweight title.Collazo is one of the boxers that’s being groomed by Oscar dela Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions to become a future boxing star.Saludar is coming into this fight as the more accomplished and experienced fighter. He’s also ranked No. 1 by the WBA and No. 6 by the WBO. Collazo, on the other hand, isn’t that experienced as a pro but has a ton of amateur experience. He’s also ranked No. 4 by the WBO.Saludar tipped the scales at 104.2 pounds, while Collazo weighed in at exactly 105 pounds, the minimumweight limit.Saludar is 21-5 with 11 knockouts, while Collazo is 4-0 with three knockouts.
