Saludar to face former world champ Moloney in Australia

ONE-TIME world title contender Froilan Saludar takes on former World Boxing Association (WBA) super flyweight king Andrew Moloney in a 10-rounder on Dec. 9, 2021 at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Broadmeadow, New South Wales, Australia.

Saludar is in for a career-defining fight against one of the best super flyweights in the world in Moloney. The 32-year-old Saludar, who was once world rated, hasn’t had much success in the big fights. He challenged Sho Kimura for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) flyweight strap and lost via a sixth round knockout. He also fought but lost to the likes of former Olympian McWilliams Arroyo and Takuma Inoue. Saludar, who recently signed with Sanman Promotions, last fought on March 17, wherein he beat Reymark Taday by unanimous decision in Gen. Santos City.

Saludar is currently training for this fight in Ukraine with WBA flyweight champion Artem Dalakian.

Moloney, on the other hand, is coming off a trilogy with WBA super flyweight champion Joshua Franco. He first fought Franco as the WBA super flyweight champion on June 23, 2020 in Las Vegas. He got dropped once in the 11th round and lost by a close unanimous decision. Their first rematch on Nov. 14, 2020 in Las Vegas was declared a no contest after the fight was stopped in the second round due to a damaged eye on Franco following an accidental headbutt. Moloney finally lost by unanimous decision to Franco in their third fight last Aug. 14 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Moloney is still currently rated in two of the four major world boxing sanctioning bodies. He’s ranked No. 8 by the WBA and No. 10 by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Saludar is 32-4-1 with 22 knockouts, while the 30-year-old Moloney is 21-2 with 14 knockouts.
