On March 23, 2023, Sans Rival Cakes and Pastries, home of Dumaguete’s all-time favorite Silvanas, opened its first standalone restaurant in Cebu City at 8 Banawa Centrale. Established in 1977 by Trinidad “Trining” Teves Sagarbarria, the restaurant originally started out as a small bakeshop in Dumaguete City offering a variety of desserts and became best known for its iconic Silvanas.
“We felt that it was the right time to open our third branch in Cebu—8 Banawa Centrale in particular—as we think it was a wonderful area to serve its growing community,” said Trinidad Sagarbarria Bustamante, the managing director of Sans Rival Food Development Inc.
“We are very excited to serve the surrounding residential neighborhood in the area with what we’ve got to offer: Our treasured heritage recipes that have been passed down for generations, mixed with a fusion of contemporary comfort dishes. We also have our extensive cakes and pastries product line with the iconic Dumaguete Silvanas leading the way and our Gateau Sans Rival, the namesake of our store,” Bustamante added.
Sans Rival Cake & Pastries Restaurant is set to become a popular destination for both locals and tourists in Cebu City. With a casual yet elegant atmosphere, guests are greeted by a beautiful modern Victorian style building with high ceilings and large windows. The dining area is spacious and comfortable, adorned with dark wood floors, white tablecloths, and blue ornamental accents, perfect for those looking to relax and enjoy their time.
“The newest feature that we have at this restaurant is our Tapas bar,” Bustamante shared. “Because of the view here at 5 in the afternoon, I said to myself that this area makes a perfect place for tapas, having a glass of wine, and chilling after a hard day’s work.”
On May 6, 2023, the restaurant opened its Tapas Bar to the public. It serves appetizers and various cocktails and alcoholic drinks that are perfect for a night out with friends. With a menu featuring a wide variety of desserts and savory meals, the restaurant’s Silvanas are known to be one of the restaurant’s main highlights.
This unique cookie counterpart of the Gateau Sans Rival is made up of thin cashew meringue wafers filled with butter mousseline and coated in bespoke cookie crumbs and became a popular pasalubong item that is hand carried to destinations near and far. Well received by its customers, the restaurant offers different flavors apart from its iconic 1977 Classic Original Butter, such as its Chocolate, Strawberry, Pandan, and Ube Silvanas.
Cebuano locals can try out these signature dishes in the two other Sans Rival Cakes & Pastries branches in Cebu that are located at Robinsons Galleria in Gen. Maxilom Avenue Extension and at Robinsons Fuente Osmeña.
