JEO Santisima once again proved that he’s still a world class talent following an impressive stoppage win over fellow former world title challenger Hiroshige Osawa at the Edion Arena in Osaka to become the only Filipino to walk away with a win on Aug. 14 in Japan.Santisima and Osawa didn’t need a feel-out round and started the fight at a frenetic pace. Both fighters were looking to knock each other’s heads off.The 26-year-old Santisima dropped Osawa with a left hook to the jaw in the third round. Osawa beat the referee’s count and continued to fight on.Santisima finally ended the 37-year-old Osawa’s night with a counter left hook that dropped the Japanese veteran near the ropes. The referee didn’t bother to count and immediately stopped the fight at the 1:56 mark of the fifth round.Santisima, the No. 15 ranked featherweight by the World Boxing Organization, bounced back from his loss to Joet Gonzalez in March and improved to 22-4 with 19 knockouts.Osawa saw his four-fight streak end and dropped to 37-6-4 with 21 knockouts.“I fought on the enemy’s turf and it was not wise to let the judges decide the fight. I am very grateful to ZIP-Sanman for this opportunity and dedicate this win to my countrymen,” said Santisima, who was one of six Pinoy warriors that saw action in two different venues in Japan.Tomjune Mangubat, in the meantime, suffered a fourth round stoppage in the hands of Masanori Rikiishi in an Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation super featherweight title bout also at the Edion Arena.Riikishi stopped Mangubat with a counter left uppercut that dropped him on his back. The referee didn’t bother to count and immediately waved it off at the 2:45 mark.Mangubat suffered his second straight defeat and fell to 15-4 with 12 knockouts, while Rikiishi won his 10th straight bout and is now 12-1 with seven knockouts.Over at the Central Gym in Kobe, three-time world title challenger Jonathan Taconing, Ranelio Quizo, Jun Blazo and Jonathan Almacen all lost their respective fights.Taconing (29-5-1, 22 KOs) lost to former world champion Ryuya Yamanaka (18-3, 6 KOs) by unanimous decision; Quizo (10-3, 3 KOs) also bowed down to Kazuki Anaguchi (3-0, 2 KOs) by unanimous decision; Blazo (16-7-3, 12 KOs) was knocked out by Takahiro Tai (4-1, 4 KOs) in the third round; and Almacen (7-6-3, 2 KOs) was stopped by Shunpei Odagiri (1-0, 1 KO) in the sixth round.
