Seares: One Cebu picked Bongbong yet? Ping Lacson lost more than Partido Reporma resources. Kids ‘used’ in Carbon protest, says Garganera.

PDP-LABAN Cusi Wing announced Tuesday, March 22, that it has endorsed the candidacy of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.That means President Rodrigo Duterte is telling political allies the choice of the ruling party, which is probably the President’s choice too. Earlier, the PDP-Laban Cusi wing picked Sara Duterte-Carpio as its bet for vice president. So it is now the BBM-Sara tandem for the president’s party. Bongbong? Didn’t Duterte broadly hint that Bongbong is weak and may be hooked on cocaine, and a lawyer would make a better president? The President has not yet officially announced his choice. But it is the “logical conclusion” from the party’s decision. Still, the President may just be jerking people, he often does. Duterte at times says this but means another. Or says this now and says another the next.PING DROPPED MORE THAN A PARTY. Presidential wannabe Partido para sa Demokratikong Reporma, known simply as Partido Reporma, ditched its presidential candidate Panfilo Lacson in favor of Leni Robredo. Ping Lacson resigned from the party Thursday, March 24, but announced he was not quitting the race. The party was organized by former Defense secretary Renato de Villa to run for president in 1988. De Villa and his VP, Oscar Orbos, lost. In the 2004 race, Reporma backed Raul Roco of Aksyon Demokratiko who, with Cebu’s Lito Osmeña of Promdi as running mate, also lost. It didn’t endorse a candidate for president and VP in 2016 and this year initially backed Lacson but ditched him for Leni Robredo. It has only one seat in the House and 0 seat in the Senate. Its president is former House speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and has no chairman. In sum, it doesn’t have much resources in terms of incumbent officials and political leaders on the ground.Ping Lacson and running mate Tito Sotto may not have lost, technically, a party since the Comelec reportedly still considers them as carrying the party’s name in their certificate of candidacy and nomination. But symbolically, the switch of support may symbolize, a political watcher said, a “sinking ship.”BOPK under Margot Osmeña in Cebu City is supporting Leni Robredo and Tito Sotto.CHILDREN “PROTESTERS.” Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera said he has sent to the Commission on Human Rights, DSWD, and the city’s police office Women and Children’s Desk a video clip of a March 11 incident, in which a group of children rushed to the gate of the market administration office at the Carbon Market Unit 2 along Quezon Blvd.Kons Joel alleged the children, “in a clear orchestrated manner,” displayed “aggressiveness towards the market authorities.” Affidavits of witnesses may be needed. The video clip showed the kids, in only few seconds, running towards the gate, some of them briefly bumping it with their small bodies, then running back to where they started. They could be just playing — or were or being exploited for some selfish purpose, as the complaint suggests. It’s possible the children were used to dramatize the protest of some vendors against the Carbon “privatization” issue.POLITICOS HATED BOBBY. Most of them had no love lost for the radio commentator-newspaper columnist who was laid to rest Monday, March 21. The few who didn’t hate him were friends who happened, or strived, to be close to him.In death, however, Bobby’s haters didn’t show publicly their true feelings. The published obits had scarce comment from politicians: only one, thus it stood out, issued a statement. Land Transportation Office Victor Caindec publicly thanked Bobby, not for skill or virtue in journalism, but, he said, for helping him become “sikat” or famous. Caindec even sent flowers — and not before Bobby died.
