TEXTILE vendors of the Lapu-Lapu City Public Market will be required to update their business permits and settle their rental fees before they can transfer to the city’s newly-renovated market building.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan said this during a meeting with textile vendors of the city’s public market on Friday, January 22, 2021, at City Hall.
Chan said he found out that of the 63 textile vendors previously doing business at the market before the renovation, only 15 settled their rental fees amounting P200.
During their meeting, the vendors pleaded to Chan to allow them to do business at their current stalls while they are slowly settling their rentals.
Chan agreed to the vendors’ request.
“If they have not yet updated their payments to the City, they will have to remain in the old stalls. If they completed their payments and have updated their business permit, then we will facilitate their transfer to the new market building,” Chan said, in Cebuano.
Alice Delmoro, president of the textile section, expressed her gratitude to Chan after he heard them out.
On the other hand, Chan said that another public hearing will be held to decide if there is a need to increase the vendors’ monthly rent in the public market.
Chan said the P200 rental fee they are charging to vendors per month has not been updated since the 1960s.
He said there is a need to increase the monthly rent to help in increasing the City’s annual revenue. (NDT/MMC)
