Solon: Are you still on track with your health goals?

If you’re a normal person, you probably put in a New Year’s resolution that has something to do with health. A lot of us start out guns blazing with that goal, and fizzle out somewhere in the third week of January.

Are we still on track with our health goals?

If you are, then good for you! If you’re not, then fear not; this is perfectly normal. In fact, progress is rarely a linear event. Progress is about having more good days than bad days, and getting back on track even from setbacks.

When you think you’ve fallen off track, think of these steps to get back on the saddle:

Remember your ‘why’

For a lot of people, getting healthy and taking care of ourselves allow us to take better care of the people that we love. When we know our mission, take heart that our own compass will guide us to where we need to go.

Win the days

This means that each day is an opportunity to succeed. Are you succeeding in your nutrition, exercise, and stress management? Count each healthy habit as a win, and try to win each day. The more days won means that you’re on your way to getting to your goal. Trust but re-examine the process.

There are always opportunities to improve on our processes. The Japanese word “Kaizen” means to continuously improve for the better. This can be in areas of our health too. When you feel stagnant and as if you’re just going through the motions, examine and evaluate the things you can do better.

Progress is rarely linear. It is normal to have peaks and valleys in our health goals. Do not lose heart. Forward and onward to a healthier and better you in 2021.
