Some eateries in upland villages found lacking in business permits

WHILE food establishments in Cebu City’s mountain barangays have been compliant with the liquor ban policy, some of them have been found to have no business permits.

The Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) made the discovery when its personnel visited the city’s mountain barangays to check if the liquor ban was being implemented.

This, following the report of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) that establishments in the mountain barangays were still serving liquor.

“Wala mi naabtan nag-violate sa (We didn’t find violators of the) liquor ban, naa nuon mga wala’y (but we found establishments without) permits,” BPLO head Jared Limquiaco said in an interview with SunStar Cebu.

Limquiaco, though, was not able to say how many did not have business permits.

The establishments were issued with a show-cause order for them to explain why they were not able to secure their permits, said Limquiaco.

Should the establishments fail to apply for permits, they will be closed, he said.

Limquiaco said the BPLO is randomly inspecting different establishments, especially resto bars, to ensure they are not violating the liquor ban policy.

Limquiaco reminds the establishment owners to follow the liquor ban, as well as implement other health protocols, or else their business permits will be at stake.

The standing order mandated by the City Government is no public drinking of liquor and establishments are not allowed to serve liquor in their respective spaces. (JJL)
