Steady power supply soon in Olango Island

THE problem of power supply in Olango Island in Lapu-Lapu City will soon be addressed with the opening of a new power plant in the island.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan and executives from the Total Power Inc. led the opening of the Olango Power Plant on Feb. 25, 2021.

The power plant will provide up to 3,600 kilowatts to the island, whose current demand is at 1,200 kilowatts.

Chan said the steady power supply will be beneficial to the residents of the island who have long suffered from brownouts that disrupt their daily activities.

It will also boost the operations of hotels and other commercial establishments in the island since they can now serve guests without having to worry about any power interruption.

Businesses on the island that are trying to bounce back from the economic effects of the pandemic, have been affected by incessant brownouts.

Because of its beaches and other attractions, Olango Island is among the places frequented by local tourists especially during weekends.

Chan said with the power plant, investors will be enticed to invest in the island because there will be no more problem on power supply.

The Lapu-Lapu City, in a resolution, had urged the Energy Regulatory Board to intervene so that the island’s problem on power supply could be addressed. (GCM / NGM)
