Suarez takes on Yap Aug. 7

FORMER Olympian Charly Suarez defends his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super featherweight belt against journeyman Marjohn Yap in the main event of Part II of the Ultimate Knockout Challenge (UKC) Tiger: “Annihilation” on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.The 33-year-old Suarez is looking to continue his dominance in the pro boxing scene and move up to the next level with a win over Yap, who’s considered a gatekeeper to test up-coming-prospects.Suarez won the biggest fight in his pro career with a 12th round technical knockout over Tomjune Mangubat to win the vacant WBA Asia belt last March 12.The 33-year-old Yap is eager to end his losing streak by scoring an upset over Suarez. Yap lost to former world champion Angelo Leo, Angel Alejandro and Jadier Herrera in his last three bouts.Suarez and Yap both tipped the scales at 129.2 pounds.Suarez, rated No. 40 by the World Boxing Council (WBC), is 11-0 with seven knockouts, while Yap is 30-16 with 15 knockouts.Meanwhile, Al Toyogon (12-6-1, 8 KOs) locks horns with Allan Villanueva (11-2, 8 KOs) for the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Asia-Pacific lightweight title, while Aussie Linn Sandstrom (5-2-1, 2 KOs) guns for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super flyweight strap against Thai Kwunchit Khunya (3-11-1) in the main supporting bouts of UKC Tiger Part II. Clyde Azarcon (17-4-1, 6 KOs) slugs it out with Lito Dante (18-11-4, 10 KOs) for the WBF International minimumweight title in the main event of Part I of UKC Tiger: “Annihilation.”
