Suspected NPA member killed in clash with soldiers in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental

A SUSPECTED member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed during an encounter with the 62nd Infantry Battalion in Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Sunday night, November 20, 2022.

The gun battle reportedly took five minutes and involved soldiers and five members of the NPA under the Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor.

The Visayas Command did not release the name of the fatality.

The soldiers were able to recover an M16 rifle and four magazines with 43 rounds of a 5.56mm.

Also on Sunday, members of the 46th Infantry Battalion conducted a focused military operation in Barangay Sinalangtan, Calbiga town in Samar Island where they recovered four M14 rifles, six M16 rifles, four AK47 rifles, one M79 grenade launcher, one shotgun, one KG9 and one .38 and 14 AK47 magazine assemblies.

They were given the location from a former NPA member who recently surrendered.

The NPA is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines. (AYB, PJB)
