Talisay fire ‘still under probe’

THE fire that struck Sitio Cruzan, Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City around noon on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, ended up destroying 12 houses and damaging 14 others.

Members of the Talisay City Fire Station (TCFS) returned to the scene on Sunday, Dec. 18, to identify where the fire started and to investigate what caused it.

According to SFO3 Guiller Pegarido, deputy fire marshal of Talisay City, they received reports that the blaze started in the house of 80-year-old Felimon Yap Sr.

“As per info of our investigator, they will include the cause of fire in their final report… as of now, the status of the fire incident is still under investigation,” he said in a mix of Cebuano and English.

The TCSF has invited Yap and several witnesses for questioning as part of the investigation.

However, Felimon’s son-in-law Danny said than an electric post that was damaged during super typhoon Odette in December last year was to blame for the incident.

He said witnesses saw one of its wires snap when a strong gust of wind struck the area last Saturday. When the wire hit his father-in-law’s house, that was when the fire started, he said.

Danny told Superbalita Cebu he shared this information because he just wanted to clear their name.

Meanwhile, the Pegarido urged the public to just wait for the result of their investigation. (BBT / PJB)
