Transport group calls on drivers not to strike

A FEDERATION consisting of corporations and cooperatives of modern public utility vehicles (MPUV) denounced the planned transport strike by several transport groups saying it will only hurt the passengers in the end.

“I appeal to my companions in the transport sector, let us not sacrifice the welfare of the riding public, our workers and our students,” said Novy Medallo, chairman of the Federation of Cebu Transport Cooperatives (FCTC) in Cebuano.

Aside from the member corporations and cooperatives of the federation, Medallo was joined by its allied transport cooperatives in a press conference to express their support to the modernization of transportation program of the government on Friday, March 03, 2023.

There are six corporations and cooperatives that are officially under the wing of Medallo’s group, with nine more that are willing to be part of the federation.

Present were LAMADOTRASCO, El Pardo Transport Coop, INTRASCO, Lahug-Apas TSC, Kalunasan TC, PITAMCO, LACTODCO Transport, Mandaue Transport, Mabolo Transport Coop, CLMDOT Transport, Cebu People’s Coop, UDOTCO Transport, Banawa Transport Coop, and Mauswagon Transport Coop.

He said there are MPUVs on standby to cater to passengers if ever the transport strike pushes through.

Medallo said currently, there are more than 1000 MPUVs that are fully operational in Central Visayas.

LTFRB 7

The FCTC also defended Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-Central Visayas (LTFRB 7) Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. from allegations thrown at him.

This is after the regional transport director figures on controversy after the chairman of Cebu Integrated Transport Service Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Citrasco) announced plans to stage a “transport holiday” against the director.

Interviewed by SunStar Cebu, Citrasco chairman Ryan Yu said they already expected the move of the FCTC to happen.

“Not all will join our call. We know them, also, and we have already anticipated their actions,” said Yu.

Yu claimed the cooperatives who were present at the press conference were operators who allegedly get favors from Montealto.(KJF)
