UC ace Galinato to play for Pagadian in Regional Pilipinas Super League

UNIVERSITY of Cebu Webmasters’ star Paul Galinato will be taking the next step of his basketball career as he is set to play for Pagadian Explorers in the newest regional basketball league in the country, the Pilipinas Super League.Galinato, a left-handed hotshot who previously played for Centro Escolar University before transferring to UC a few years ago, said he’s just making the most out of the opportunity especially with the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) being out of commission for the last few years due to the pandemic.“I have to grab every opportunity given to me because this will serve as a stepping stone in my basketball career,” said Galinato in a talk with SunStar Cebu.“Especially in our current situation, only a few are given a chance and it is a great blessing and honor to play in a professional league. That’s why I didn’t hesitate and said yes,” he added.Pagadian is part of the eight-team roster of the PSL. Also competing are the ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu, Basilan, Davao, Roxas, Bicol, Cagayan de Oro and Cagayan Valley. The first game on March 18 will feature Roxas taking on the mighty Davao Occidental Tigers.Although the challenge is significant given the pros he will be going up against, Galinato is excited to suit up and compete.“I am very much overwhelmed and blessed because this is a next level basketball and a new chapter in my career,” he shared.Although Galinato is securing a special guest license from the Games and Amusements Board—a perk that allows student-athletes to compete in professional leagues without losing their collegiate eligibility—it remains to be seen if he will still be allowed to play in the Cesafi once it opens later this year.
