UCFC, Kaya FC suffer lopsided losses in AFC Champions League

FILIPINO clubs United City FC (UCFC) and Kaya FC-Iloilo suffered a beating in their respective matches in the AFC Champions League last June 29.

Defending Philippines Football League (PFL) titleholder United City FC was crushed by South Korea’s Daegu FC, 7-0, in a Group I match at the Bunyodkor Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Brazilian striker Cesinha gave Daegu FC the lead with a goal in the 23rd minute. Daegu FC’s other Brazilian forward Edgar made it 2-0 with a goal in the 43rd minute.

Just before halftime, defender Kim Jin-Hyuk headed in a third goal from a free kick by An Yong-Woo to give Daegu FC a commanding lead.

UCFC had no answer for Daegu FC defensively and offensively as the Korean side scored four more goals in the second half.

An scored a brace with goals in the 62nd and 72nd minutes, Park Han-Bin hit his target in the 90th minute and Jun Chi-In added another in five minutes of added time.

UCFC dropped to the bottom of Group I along with Beijing FC after the latter also dropped a 7-0 loss to J1 League champion Kawasaki Frontale.

On the other hand, Kaya FC-Iloilo suffered its second straight defeat after a 5-0 crushing in the hands of V.League 1 titleholder Viettel FC.

Viettel FC scored two quick goals with a second minute goal by Ngyen Hoàng Duc and a seventh minute goal by Brazilian striker Caìque.

The Filipino side’s nightmare continued with Viettel FC scoring three more goals in the second half. Bùl Tien Dung I scored in the 49th, Caìque scored a brace with a goal in the 61st and Vu Minh Tuan hit the back of the net in the 65th minute.

Kaya FC-Iloilo remained at the bottom of Group F with no points. (EKA)
