CENTRAL Visayas received 62,200 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine on Sunday, July 11, 2021, according to the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC).
Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, VVOC spokesperson, said the doses were donated by Japan and will be given to A1 (medical frontliners), A2 (senior citizens), A3 (persons with comorbidity) and A4 (essential workers) priority groups.
She said they expect more vaccines to arrive within the month.
An allocation of the Sinovac vaccine will be delivered next week, while doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that were donated by the US will be delivered before the end of July, she said.
Loreche said they need to prioritize those belonging to the A1 to A3 priority groups because they are considered vulnerable.
By vaccinating them, they will be protected from developing severe symptoms in case they get infected, she said. And if fewer of them get sick, health care facilities won’t be overwhelmed, she added.
As of July 11, public and private vaccination centers in the whole of Cebu have administered 464,147 doses, of which 353,978 were first doses and 110,169 were second doses, according to Loreche.
In Cebu City, 181,622 doses were administered, of which 128,122 were first doses and 53,500 were second doses.
In Mandaue City, 97,981 vaccine doses were administered, of which 80,220 were first doses and 17,671 were second doses.
In Lapu-Lapu City, 44,858 vaccine doses were administered, of which 36,771 were first doses and 8,087 were second doses.
In Metro Cebu, 17.44 percent of the total eligible population have received the first dose, while 5.10 percent are fully vaccinated. (KFD)
