Vicelles faces Abcedein Kumbati 13 on June 17

RISING light flyweight Mark Vicelles will be tested today, June 17, if he’s indeed world class as he faces experienced Jaysever Abcede in the 10-round main feature of Omega Sports Promotions’ “Kumbati 13” show at the Parkmall in Mandaue City, Cebu.Vicelles needs an impressive performance against a proven gatekeeper in Abcede.The 26-year-old Vicelles is very close to a world title shot and should get it if given an offer. Vicelles is currently ranked No. 2 by the World Boxing Organization, No. 4 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), No. 4 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and No. 12 by the World Boxing Association.Vicelles had a breakout year in 2021, wherein he beat former world title challenger Toto Landero, previously unbeaten prospect Jerven Mama and Richard Rosales. He’s coming off a quick first round technical knockout victory over former world title challenger Richard Claveras in March in Mandaue City.On the other hand, Abcede is fresh from a sixth round knockout win over Jay R Tulinan also in March in Misamis Oriental. Abcede is currently rated No. 21 by the WBC. He beat the likes of world title contender Yuthanna Kaensa and fought but lost to world-class fighters in Wanheng Menayothin and Panya Pradabsri.Vicelles is 16-0-1 with nine knockouts, while Abcede is 21-10 with 13 knockouts.Meanwhile, Christian Araneta is up against one-time world title challenger Toto Landero in the 10-round co-main event. Araneta is also waiting for his shot at a world championship and is rated No. 5 by the IBF and No. 18 by the WBC. He’s coming off two straight first round stoppage wins over Claveras and Arnold Garde.Landero, in the meantime, lost his last three fights against Vicelles, Melvin Jerusalem and Tibo Monabesa.Araneta is 21-2 with 17 knockouts, while Landero is 11-7-2 with two knockouts.In the undercard, Benny Cañete (5-0, 4 KOs) slugs it out with Mark Glen Antaran (4-4-3, 3 KOs); Franco Serafica (8-1, 4 KOs) takes on Remon Basas (6-7, 4 KOs); Carlo Bacaro (8-0, 6 KOs) is up against Jimmy Borbon (7-10-4, 4 KOs); and Ramil Roda (0-0-1) faces Norman Rusiana (0-2-1) in a rematch.
