Vitor faces Yupang for vacant WBO Oriental belt

VIGEL Vitor has been patiently waiting for his big break for years. The 25-year-old Boholano finally earns his chance to break into the world rankings as he fights for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental super featherweight belt against Thai prospect Arnon Yupang in “Kumong Bol-anon VII” on Sept. 9 at the Dimiao Gym in Bohol.Vitor is currently one of the most promising young names to come out of the island of Bohol that has produced some elite boxers like five-division world champion Nonito Donaire Jr., former World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight king Mark Magsayo, ex-world title challenger Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista, Czar Amonsot and former Olympian Teogenes Pelegrino.Vitor, who was once under the wing of the now-defunct ALA Gym, is now riding a five-fight winning streak—beating the likes of Jeffrey Stella, Allan Alberca, Lorence Rosas, Jecker Buhawi and Ivor Lastrilla. He’s fresh from a second-round stoppage of Lastrilla last July 23 in his hometown of Tagbilaran City.Vitor has only two losses in his career. One was early in his career, when he was still an 18-year-old in 2015, in the hands of Carlo Demecillo by unanimous decision in Cebu City. Vitor’s second defeat was against the toughest opposition he has faced, veteran Mark Anthony Geraldo, who stopped him in six rounds in Tagbilaran City.Yupang should pose a huge threat to Vitor’s rise in the super featherweight division. The 25-year-old Thai has faced a couple of elite Thai fighters in just three years in the pro ranks. He owns a win over former International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight king Amnat Ruenroeng and one-time world title challenger Tanawat Phonnaku.Yupang is coming off a unanimous decision win over Taweechai Juntarasuk.Vitor is 18-2 with 11 knockouts, while is 9-2 with three knockouts. On the other hand, IBF No. 6 ranked light flyweight Regie Suganob (11-0, 4 KOs) trades leathers with Indonesian Andika D’Golden Boy (19-0-1, 10 KOs) in the other main feature. Also seeing action in the undercard are Jake Amparo (9-3-1, 2 KOs), Jhunrille Castiño (11-1, 4 KOs) and Shane Gentallan (4-0, 2 KOs) against yet-to-be-named opponents.
