GERALDINE Potot, who is facing a murder case, denied she took part in the killing of her husband Romneck in Tabogon, Cebu in 2020.
The 31-year-old part-time English language teacher also defended her six relatives who are her co-accused, saying they are all innocent.
“I am hoping that truth shall prevail. I believe that the truth will set us free,” Geraldine told reporters on Monday, November 8.
She further said: “I am praying for my husband that the truth will come out sooner, so that our families and kids will be together again.”
Geraldine was caught in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City on Sunday, November 7, by the agents of the National Bureau of Investigation Central Visayas (NBI 7), who served the warrant of arrest for murder.
Her six relatives, also facing murder charges, had already been arrested. They are Fausto Gerry Deligero, Imelda Toling Deligero, Willin Pevida Sopsop, Zalde Pevida Sopsop, Jose Bandojo and Arlene Sopsop Flores.
Geraldine, who also worked in allied health services, said she did not show up after the arrest of her relatives because she wanted to secure her children and mother.
In an earlier report, Agapito Gierran, the NBI agent assigned to the case, said he found it suspicious that Geraldine reported her husband missing only three days after he had failed to return home despite saying that they were happily married.
Gierran said when her husband’s father asked where the victim was, that was the time Geraldine started to panic.
Romneck’s remains were later found slumped in a grassy area near their house. This happened after the NBI 7 investigators found out that an argument had erupted between Potot and his wife’s family allegedly over a piece of land that the victim had bought for his own family. (ANV / KAL)
