TALISAY police have yet to decide whether to charge a woman who posted a fake kidnapping incident in Barangay Cansojong on social media on Thursday, August 25, 2022.Lieutenant Colonel Randy Caballes, chief of the Talisay City Police Station, said that if there’s enough basis to file a case against Graciella Maurice Aliño, they will do so on Tuesday, August 30.In an interview on Friday, August 26, Caballes said Aliño’s post about a woman who was allegedly kidnapped went viral.According to initial investigation, Aliño was riding a motorcycle when she passed by a woman screaming on Uldog Street.Instead of verifying what had happened, Aliño posted online that a kidnapping had just taken place.The post alarmed Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, who pushed Caballes to investigate the incident.Aliño later issued a public apology:“Good morning everyone. I am the one behind the posting about the incident in Uldog, Talisay last August 25, 2022. I would like to ask a public apology for causing public scare and panic to all Talisaynon. According to the police investigation, the incident was unverified.“Moreover, I sincerely ask for apology for spreading unverified information. Sorry and thank you for understanding.”Caballes urged residents to be wary of posting unverified incidents and hoaxes on social media or risk facing a case in court. (BBT)
