Cockpit arenas allowed to open

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama has approved the guidelines for the reopening of cockpit arenas in the city on Thursday, March 24, 2022.This was announced by City Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), after Rama signed certain measures endorsed by the EOC that would be implemented during the resumption of cockpit operations.The guidelines emphasized that cockpit personnel should be fully vaccinated against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and that health safety protocols such as wearing face masks and physical distancing should always be observed by all the people inside the cockpit arena.The cockpit arenas should also be well ventilated and should have hepa filters to avoid the spread of the coronavirus disease.A health infection and prevention control officer should also be assigned in the area to ensure implementation of health safety protocols.Cockpit operators are also required to install a washing area with soap for their clients to wash first their hands before entering the arena.In-person betting will be allowed among the spectators inside the arena, which should be equipped with an isolation room facility manned by a nurse or a physician for those people showing symptoms of Covid-19.There are four legitimate cockpit arenas in Cebu City. These are located in barangays Tejero, Pulangbato, Duljo and Inayawan.The EOC has tasked the cockpit operators to control the crowd inside the arenas.Under Alert Level 1, they can already operate at 100 percent capacity.The EOC will conduct a suprise inspection in cockpit arenas to see if the guidelines are being followed.Violators will be slapped with a penalty by the City Government.
