Palma urges faithful to be sincere in observing Holy Week

THE faithful must be sincere and passionate in their observance of the Holy Week.This was Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma’s message during the Palm Sunday mass held at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral in Cebu City on April 10, 2022.In his homily, Palma reminded the faithful of the importance of Holy Week and Jesus Christ’s unconditional love and sacrifices for mankind.Palma said Cebuanos have faced a lot of challenges such as the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and Typhoon Odette (Rai) last December, but have remained steadfast in their faith.In an interview after the mass, Palma urged the people to strengthen their faith more this Holy Week.“A lot of people now are eyeing to travel to enjoy beautiful beaches as the situation starts to go back to normal but let us not forget to celebrate the real essence of the Holy Week,” said Palma.The Archdiocese of Cebu has announced that all physical activities will be observed for this year’s Holy Week celebration as the number of Covid-19 cases in Cebu has continued to drop. The cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu and Talisay are under Alert Level 1, while Cebu Province is under Alert Level 2.The Department of Health has urged people to strictly observe the health protocols to avoid a resurgence of new cases.In-person masses, processions, and participation in the Way of the Cross are some of the allowed church activities for the Holy Week.
