HIGHLY rated Mark “Rasta Mac” Vicelles was cool, composed and made quick work of experienced Jaysever Abcede after knocking him out in just a single round of the main event of Omega Sports Promotions’ “Kumbati 13” at the Park Mall in Mandaue City, Cebu.Abcede came out with bad intentions, throwing some heavy combinations at Vicelles, who defended the attack really well. Vicelles hurt Abcede with a left hook to the body that slowed him down momentarily.The 26-year-old Vicelles landed a grazing right hook that dropped Abcede on his knee. Referee Nic Banal counted Abcede out despite standing up right at the 10th count. The time was 2:27 of the first round.Vicelles remained unbeaten with 17-0-1 with 10 knockouts, while the 27-year-old Abcede fell to 21-11 with 13 knockouts.Vicelles is currently rated No. 2 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), No. 4 by the World Boxing Council (WBC), No. 4 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 11 by the World Boxing Council (WBC).“I want to fight in the title eliminator or world championship. I’m ready,” said Vicelles after the fight.Vicelles may have gotten his wish as Omega Boxing Gym head coach Jinggoy Junco revealed after the fight that they are working on a WBO world title eliminator for him next.Jonathan Gonzalez is the current WBO light flyweight champion. He’s set to defend his belt against Pinoy former Olympian Mark Anthony Barriga on June 24 in the US. Currently ranked ahead of Vicelles in the WBO rankings is Japanese Riku Kano. Ranked below Vicelles at No. 3 is former world champion Elwin Soto, at No. 4 is Japanese Sokichi Iwata and at No. 5 is Mexican Daniel Valladares.Meanwhile, IBF No. 5 light flyweight Christian Araneta outclassed former world title challenger Toto Landero via a 10-round unanimous decision in the co-main feature.Araneta got the nod of all three judges with scores of 98-92, 98-92, and 99-91.Araneta improved to 22-2 with 17 knockouts, while Landero dropped to 11-8-2 with two knockouts.In the undercard, Benny Cañete (6-0, 5 KOs) forced Mark Glen Antaran (4-5-3, 3 KOs) to quit on his stool after the second round, Franco Serafica (9-1, 4 KOs) beat Remon Basas (6-8, 4 KOs) by unanimous decision, Carlo Bacaro (9-0, 6 KOs) won by technical decision over Jimmy Borbon (7-11-4, 4 KOs) and Ramil Roda (1-0-1) got his first pro win after beating Marvin Rusiana (0-3-1) by unanimous decision in the show’s opener.
