PSA begins Step 2 of national ID rollout at Cebu City mall

THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) started its second step of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) rollout at Robinsons Galleria Cebu in Cebu City on Thursday, March 18, 2021.

The Cebu City Government is ready to support the PSA 7 in helping residents from 80 barangays who want to obtain a national ID, according to Joan Marie Quiñanola, assistant chief of staff of the Office of the Mayor.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed Republic Act 11055 (the Philippine Identification System Act), which aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens, in August 2018.

Robinsons Galleria Cebu’s management has provided a space for the PSA so the agency can cater to more city residents and social distancing can be observed. The PSA’s Central Visayas office on Colon St. has a smaller space compared to the mall.

Lyndon Suico, a statistical specialist 2 at the PSA 7, said the second step of their registration involves the collection of registrants’ biometric data such as fingerprints, photograph and iris scan.

The first step was the pre-registration completed last year. The PSA personnel collected information from the registrants during their house-to-house visits.

The third step will be the issuance of physical IDs with PhilSys numbers to the registrants. It will take around 25 working days before the IDs will be received by the registrants, and the IDs will be delivered by a courier service to the residences of the registrants. (PAC)
