Iran Asserts President Wounded in Last Month’s Israeli Air Attack

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian sustained a minor leg injury while escaping an incident last month, according to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency.

The alleged attack occurred on June 16 at a secure government facility, where Pezeshkian was holding a meeting with other senior officials, as reported by the outlet, which is managed by Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Six bombs or missiles reportedly targeted entry and exit points, aiming to impede evacuation from the building and disrupt internal air flow. Power to the targeted floor was also cut following the blasts, the report stated.

The officials escaped through an emergency hatch, according to the report. Pezeshkian and several others reportedly suffered minor leg injuries during their escape.

The report claimed the attack resembled an Israeli plan that led to the assassination of a Hezbollah leader in September.

The alleged strike was said to have taken place on the fourth day of the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran.

Israel has stated its military targeted some of Iran’s top military leaders and nuclear scientists in a series of air strikes intended to prevent the regime from achieving its goal of producing nuclear weapons.

On June 22, the U.S. launched its own stealth strike on three of Iran’s key nuclear enrichment sites. The 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran concluded with a U.S.-brokered cease-fire.
