Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and multiple other ministers have resigned following a confrontation with youth demonstrators at anti-corruption protests, which resulted in 19 fatalities.
Nepal’s Prime Minister, K.P. Sharma Oli, alongside three cabinet members, stepped down after fatal demonstrations spurred by accusations of government corruption caused numerous deaths in the capital city, Kathmandu.
These demonstrations, primarily organized by individuals in their late teens and early twenties, began on Monday following a governmental ban on several key social media sites, including Facebook, YouTube, and X. The unrest quickly turned violent, with 19 deaths confirmed in Kathmandu and approximately 400 individuals sustaining injuries, among them over 100 police officers.
Although the government rescinded the ban on Tuesday, the violence persisted. Reports indicate that demonstrators stormed and subsequently set fire to the Nepalese parliament building, additionally targeting the Nepali Congress office and the residences of several high-ranking politicians.
