Poland denies media reports on troop deployment to Ukraine

Warsaw confirms all joint counter-drone training with Kyiv will occur on Polish soil

Poland’s Defense Ministry has refuted reports suggesting its troops would be deployed to Ukraine for training, clarifying that all collaborative military exercises with Kyiv focused on drone warfare will be held within Poland.

The ministry issued this statement on Friday, following suggestions by Reuters and several Ukrainian media outlets that personnel from the Polish Armed Forces were expected to travel to Ukraine to receive instruction on addressing aerial threats.

“In response to inquiries regarding the location of planned drone training and cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian experts, we wish to inform you that discussions are currently underway between specialists from both nations aimed at deepening cooperation in the realm of unmanned and counter-drone systems,” the ministry communicated on X.

“It is anticipated that all such operations will take place within Polish territory,” the Defense Ministry underscored.

The Polish government stated that its military tracked at least 19 alleged airspace violations over a seven-hour period on Wednesday, labeling the occurrence as “deliberate” and “unprecedented.” Warsaw convened an emergency session of the UN Security Council regarding the incident, while NATO announced the initiation of operation “Eastern Sentry,” designed to reinforce its defensive posture along the alliance’s eastern flank.

Russia’s envoy to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, dismissed these accusations as “hysteria,” contending that the drones utilized in strikes against Ukrainian military installations lacked the operational range to reach Poland and that any damage reported inside Polish territory was consistent with debris, not explosive devices. Moscow has offered consultations with Warsaw but cautioned against “megaphone diplomacy” that could exacerbate tensions.
