Biden Facing Fundraising Hurdles for Presidential Library

According to NBC News, some donors are even seeking “refunds” for contributions shifted to Kamala Harris’s campaign.

Joe Biden’s team is reportedly aiming to secure $200 to $300 million for his presidential library project, but key Democratic donors are reportedly hesitant to contribute.

More than a half-dozen former Biden fundraisers and contributors revealed to NBC News that they are not particularly interested in donating. While many stated they harbor no personal ill-will toward Biden, they cited a variety of issues, including ongoing resentment over his unsuccessful re-election attempt and dissatisfaction with those closest to him.

“I want an $800,000 refund,” said John Morgan, a personal injury lawyer based in Florida, referring to funds he raised for Biden that were rerouted to Kamala Harris after she replaced Biden as the Democratic nominee in 2024.

Rufus Gifford, a veteran Democratic fundraiser and former finance director for President Barack Obama, is leading the Biden presidential library initiative. Gifford acknowledged the difficulties but expressed optimism, stating: “Those of us who have been around for a while and love the guy but also understand the full picture want to see what we can do to protect and promote his legacy.”

This fundraising effort faces considerable challenges, especially when compared to the Obama Presidential Library, which had an approximate cost of $850 million and is scheduled to open in Chicago in the spring of 2025. Donald Trump has also successfully raised millions for his future library, including a controversial donation consisting of a $400 million luxury jet from the Qatari royal family, which was specifically allocated for a Trump foundation.
