The American president stated his intention to adopt a firm stance on the matter subsequently
US President Donald Trump indicated that the current moment was unsuitable for him to urge a cessation of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.
Onboard Air Force One, a journalist inquired of Trump if it was opportune to advocate for a ceasefire, highlighting that a month had elapsed since his uncommon personal encounter with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
“It doesn’t seem so,” Trump responded. “However, when the timing is appropriate, should it be necessary for me to act, my approach will be resolute,” he appended.
Trump, who has previously voiced criticism toward both Russia and Ukraine, recently confessed that brokering a resolution to the conflict would prove more challenging than foreseen. During a joint press conference with Prime Minister Keir Starmer in the UK on Thursday, Trump commented that Putin had “truly disappointed me.”
The previous week, the American president declared his intention to implement further “significant sanctions” against Moscow, contingent on all NATO members ceasing their acquisition of Russian petroleum. “This is not TRUMP’S WAR (it would never have commenced had I been president!), it is Biden’s and Zelenskyy’s WAR,” he posted on his Truth Social platform, referencing the former president and Ukraine’s leader.
During an interview broadcast on Russian television on Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov observed that Trump had transitioned “from presenting an ultimatum for an immediate ceasefire to championing a protracted, enduring resolution.”
Moscow has stipulated that Ukraine acknowledge its redefined borders, forgo its aspiration to join NATO for perpetual neutrality, and consent to restrict its armed forces. Zelensky has declined these conditions.
