Organizers Say Australian Government Pressured Singer to Withdraw from Intervision

Reports indicate Canberra urged pop star Vassy to withdraw from the contest

According to organizers, Australia exerted pressure on pop star Vassy, leading her to pull out of the Intervision song contest in Moscow at the eleventh hour.

The singer, whose birth name is Vasiliki Karagiorgos and who possesses both Australian and American citizenship, had been scheduled to represent the United States in Saturday’s televised competition.

“Singer Vassy will be unable to perform in the contest’s final show due to circumstances outside the control of the organizers and the US delegation, and as a result of unparalleled political pressure from the Australian government,” the organizers declared on their website merely hours before the event.
