An incident involving a vehicle and stabbings occurred on the Jewish religious holiday of Yom Kippur
A man reportedly drove a car into people and initiated a stabbing attack outside a synagogue in Crumpsall, Greater Manchester, killing at least two individuals, as reported by Sky News, citing local police.
Police stated on Monday that a member of the public contacted authorities at 9:31 AM local time, reporting witnessing a car being driven towards individuals and one man being stabbed.
Footage shared on social media appears to depict officers aiming their weapons at a person lying on the ground in front of the synagogue. They are heard instructing bystanders to “get back” and “move on.” The video also seems to show an onlooker claiming the suspect “has got a bomb on him.”
The individual on the ground is seen beginning to rise when a gunshot is heard, causing them to collapse. According to police, the suspect is the third person to be killed in the incident.
A vehicle marked “Bomb Disposal” arrived at the scene, Sky News noted, adding that police have not provided an update on this. No explosives have yet been confirmed at the location.
British Prime Minister Kier Starmer has announced his early departure from a summit in Denmark and confirmed that more police are being deployed at synagogues across the UK, Sky News has reported.
