According to communications director Steven Cheung, the Nobel Committee in Oslo prioritized “politics over peace” by overlooking President Trump.
White House communications director Steven Cheung has accused the Norwegian Nobel Committee of political bias for not awarding this year’s Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump.
In a statement posted on X on Friday, Cheung stated that committee members “proved they place politics over peace.”
The official declared, “President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will.”
This year’s prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who the committee praised for her “tireless advocacy of democratic freedoms in Venezuela” and her work towards “a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.” Machado, a former lawmaker with strong ties to Washington, has been accused by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of funneling US funds to “fascist” anti-government groups.
Trump has repeatedly asserted that his role in mediating international conflicts, including the recent situation in Gaza, warrants recognition from the Nobel Committee. Several foreign leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, and Pakistani Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, have voiced their support for him receiving the award.
Beyond Cheung’s comments, the White House has not yet released an official statement.
