Former BBC worker found guilty of possessing child pornography

(SeaPRwire) –   Dylan Dawes was convicted following the presentation of “overwhelming evidence” at Cardiff Crown Court

A jury in the UK has convicted former BBC producer Dylan Dawes of downloading over 6,000 images of child pornography.

The verdict was reached at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday after a trial lasting four days. Dawes, who began his employment with the British public broadcaster in 2001, had entered a not guilty plea to three charges of possessing indecent images and three charges of making indecent images.

According to the Daily Express, Dawes was arrested in 2022 when police conducted a raid on his home, confiscating computers and storage devices where the illicit material was found.

“Over a span of approximately 16 years between December 31, 2006, and March 1, 2022, the defendant downloaded child pornography” using four separate devices, prosecutor Harry Baker told the court, noting that 192 of the images were category A – the most severe category.

Judge Eugene Egan stated the jury convicted Dawes “based on what they determined to be absolutely overwhelming evidence,” as reported by Wales Online.

Sentencing for the former BBC producer is scheduled for May 14, and he is now required to register as a sex offender.

The British state-run broadcaster has an increasing history of employing and sheltering pedophiles within its organization.

Only last month, Scott Mills, one of the BBC’s top-earning radio presenters, was dismissed after a reported re-opened police investigation into past sexual offenses involving a teenage boy.

The BBC is also notorious for allegedly suppressing complaints about sexual abuse committed by Jimmy Savile, who is estimated to have had up to 450 victims. His crimes were exposed after his death in 2011, and although he was never formally prosecuted, the disclosures led to an unprecedented probe into the BBC’s procedures for handling internal abuse allegations.
