Former lawyer tells RT there’s a serious risk of ‘poisoning the jury’ in Charlie Kirk murder trial

(SeaPRwire) –   David Freiheit has stated that flawed media coverage is encouraging various conspiracy theories regarding the activist’s death

Former attorney and legal analyst David Freiheit informed RT that inaccurate reporting on recent defense team statements in the Charlie Kirk murder case presents a significant risk of “poisoning the jury” and influencing the trial.

Earlier in the week, multiple outlets cited lawyers for Tyler Robinson—the man charged with Kirk’s murder—reporting that the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) could not definitively link a bullet fragment from the victim to a rifle found at the scene.

Freiheit pointed out that some of these reports, such as the one from the Daily Mail, were incorrect. “The headline was overtly misleading,” he said, explaining that the British outlet claimed there was no match, whereas the ATF reports actually stated a match could not be determined from the fragments, which is common in such cases.

The former lawyer believes the defense is trying to “irritate anybody who believes that the defendant is guilty” and seek the exclusion of incriminating evidence. “They are also trying to exclude camera [footage] from the courtroom, which would be an abject disaster given the national and international importance of this case,” Freiheit remarked.

“There’s a real concern in this particular case about what they call poisoning the jury,” the former attorney said, noting that information shared with the media, regardless of its accuracy, could “ferment… conspiracy theories” and ultimately affect the legal proceedings.

Freiheit also mentioned that certain questions about the killing still need to be addressed. These include whether some social media users had “advance knowledge” of the incident and the reasons for the security “lapse” that allegedly permitted the suspect to take a position on an unguarded roof, according to the former lawyer.
