Gunfight near Istanbul Israeli consulate leaves two police officers injured, three suspects neutralized.

(SeaPRwire) –   According to local media reports, two police officers were injured and three suspects were “neutralized.”

A gun battle erupted on Tuesday between police and several armed individuals near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul, Türkiye, local media have reported. The building has been closed for months and is said to be unstaffed, making it unclear if it was the target of the attack.

Reports indicate that numerous police teams were dispatched to the consulate around 12:15 PM local time. CNN’s Turkish-language outlet stated that one of the attackers, armed with long-barreled weapons, was killed, and two others were captured after being wounded. Two police officers also sustained injuries in the exchange.

The Anadolu news agency reported that, as the Israeli consulate is not operational, initial findings suggest the attack targeted Turkish police, who consistently maintain a heavy armed presence in the area.

AFP and Reuters also confirmed that no Israeli diplomats are currently stationed in Istanbul or Ankara.

Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci confirmed that all three assailants were “neutralized,” adding that their identities have been determined. One of the attackers had ties “to an organization that exploits religion,” while the other two were brothers, one of whom has a drug-related record.

Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek announced that a criminal probe has been launched and three investigators assigned to handle the case.
