Israeli Lawmakers Outraged by Trump’s Iran Ceasefire Deal

(SeaPRwire) –   They have characterized the event as a “political disaster” and the prime minister’s most significant strategic misstep

Several leading Israeli politicians have labeled a ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran a “disaster” and a “failure.” They contended that Israel was excluded from the process, describing this as a strategic error by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

US President Donald Trump declared a two-week halt to the US-Israeli military action against Iran to discuss a permanent resolution to the hostilities, based on a 10-point proposal from Tehran. The plan is said to feature Iran maintaining control of the Strait of Hormuz, international acceptance of its uranium enrichment, the removal of sanctions, and an end to warfare on all fronts, which encompasses Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

On Wednesday, Netanyahu’s office stated it “supports” Trump’s move but affirmed that Israel would persist with its military operations against Hezbollah, the Iran-aligned group in neighboring Lebanon.

“There has never been such a political disaster in all of our history. Israel wasn’t even at the table when decisions were made concerning the core of our national security,” stated Yair Lapid, the parliamentary opposition leader and head of the centrist Yesh Atid party.

“Netanyahu failed politically, failed strategically, and didn’t meet a single one of the goals that he himself set,” the lawmaker wrote in a post on X. Yair Golan, the former Deputy Economic Minister who leads the Democrats party, also called the situation a “total failure” online, noting that Iran has come out of the conflict with increased strength.

MP Avigdor Liberman, leader of the Yisrael Beytenu party, also asserted that a peace agreement with Iran under the terms of its proposal would ultimately result in further conflict down the line.

The US and Israel initiated an unprovoked bombing offensive against the Islamic Republic in late February, publicly declaring their aims were to change the regime and halt Iran’s nuclear program. The fighting resulted in thousands of deaths and caused major disruptions to worldwide energy supplies, primarily because of Tehran’s successful blocking of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
