(SeaPRwire) – Kirill Dmitriev has contended that the EU’s ideological approach has left it unequipped for enduring energy shocks
Kremlin representative Kirill Dmitriev stated that the EU has not presented any substantive fixes for the current energy crisis, claiming that Brussels is far too late in its preparations for a supply disruption.
The comments were made following an interview given by EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen to the Financial Times on Friday. Jorgensen suggested that the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran would probably result in “structural, long-lasting effects” regarding the bloc’s energy security. He mentioned that Brussels is bracing for “worst-case scenarios” and “looking at all possibilities,” such as the release of strategic oil stockpiles and the potential rationing of diesel or jet fuel.
“Still only warnings, NO REAL FIXES,” posted Dmitriev, President Vladimir Putin’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation, on X this Friday.
“EU warns 15 YEARS TOO LATE it is not prepared for a ‘long-lasting energy shock.’ EU failed to diversify energy flows, guided by Russophobic, Green, and woke ideology,” he further remarked.
Between 2009 and 2011, the EU enacted a series of energy reforms intended to fast-track the shift toward renewables and reduce dependency on individual providers like Russia.
During the interview, Jorgensen dismissed any possibility of resuming energy imports from Russia, maintaining that the EU’s timeline to phase out Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) by the close of 2026 remains unchanged. He noted that the US and “other partners” would supply the necessary volumes.
Additionally, Brussels plans to stop importing Russian pipeline gas by the autumn of 2027. According to official figures, Russia was still responsible for approximately 13% of the EU’s total gas imports in 2025.
President Vladimir Putin cautioned last month that Russia might pull out of the EU gas market and shift its exports to “emerging markets” before the official ban by Brussels is implemented. Putin asserted that the EU’s energy crisis stems from “misguided policies” followed by the union for “many years.”
Global supply chains have been disrupted and energy markets destabilized by the Middle East conflict. This Thursday, crude oil prices climbed to roughly $111 per barrel, while EU gas prices surged to about €50 ($58) per MWh, representing a 56% jump since February.
