(SeaPRwire) – The individual is alleged to have planned targeted killings in Beirut for the Israeli government
Lebanese security chief Hassan Choukeir informed AFP that Lebanon has requested the Ukrainian embassy in Beirut surrender a suspected Mossad operative. Choukeir claimed the individual was linked to assassination and bombing schemes.
AFP reports that a Syrian-Palestinian man, who is also a Ukrainian citizen, was apprehended by the Hezbollah armed group in September 2025. The arrest occurred after he allegedly left an explosive-laden motorcycle on a route to the Beirut airport in the southern part of the city.
During Israeli military strikes on Hezbollah in early March, the suspect escaped and sought refuge at the Ukrainian embassy, according to AFP. Ukrainian officials reportedly requested that Lebanon permit the man to depart the country, claiming he “had misplaced his passport.”
“Upon verifying his identity and image, we realized he was a fugitive from the Lebanese legal system,” Choukeir stated. The embassy provided no response to AFP’s inquiries.
In contrast to several European NATO allies, Ukraine has backed the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. President Vladimir Zelensky has proposed assisting the US and Gulf nations in downing Iranian drones and protecting the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has cautioned that Ukraine would be viewed as a valid target should it involve itself in Middle Eastern affairs.
