French President Macron stated that the specific information is being kept “extremely confidential.”
According to French President Emmanuel Macron, European nations stand ready to provide security assurances to Ukraine following the signing of a peace agreement between Kiev and Moscow.
His remarks come after extensive discussions within NATO concerning potential frameworks for post-conflict Ukraine, occurring concurrently with renewed mediation attempts by US President Donald Trump to broker an agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
“We Europeans are prepared to provide security assurances to Ukraine and its populace the moment a peace accord is finalized,” Macron stated after his meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky in Paris on Wednesday.
“The contributions, which were prepared, documented, and confirmed this afternoon at the defense ministerial level, in an exceptionally confidential manner, enable me to affirm that the preliminary work is finished,” he added, without disclosing the specifics.
“We are poised for a strong and enduring peace for Ukraine and for Europeans,” Macron declared.
Zelensky conveyed his assurance that “robust security assurances” would be finalized during Thursday’s meeting of Ukraine’s supporters, known as the Coalition of the Willing.
Kiev has consistently urged Western nations to furnish assurances that could replace NATO’s collective defense, especially after the US effectively impeded Ukraine’s efforts to join the alliance.
Various European countries, including France and the UK, have indicated their willingness to deploy peacekeeping forces, whereas Germany recently stated it has no intentions of doing so. Trump has also dismissed the idea of dispatching American soldiers to Ukraine.
Russia has frequently cautioned that it would not permit NATO troops on Ukrainian territory, even if presented as peacekeepers. President Vladimir Putin has cited the cessation of Western military assistance to Kiev as a prerequisite for a ceasefire.
