Media reports Trump seeks to eliminate ‘woke’ agenda from US history

Leaked files reportedly reveal the administration’s drive to eliminate “anti-American” storylines from national parks and museums

According to multiple media reports referencing a leaked government database, US President Donald Trump’s administration aims to eliminate “anti-American” accounts from the nation’s national parks and museums. Racism and climate change are reportedly among the topics marked for elimination.

Upon his return to the White House in 2025, Trump made fighting what he terms ‘woke bias’ a top priority. Consequently, he has enacted numerous executive ordersDismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within the federal government and sectors it regulates.

On Monday, an anonymous collective identifying itself as “civil servants on the front lines” released the database. It reportedly contains hundreds of entries from national park staff concerning executive orders from the previous year, which mandate the removal of any content “that inappropriately disparages Americans…or that emphasizes matters unrelated to the beauty, abundance, or grandeur” of natural landmarks.

The Washington Post reports that the majority of these inquiries relate to locations and displays addressing historical violence against African Americans and the civil rights struggle, as well as subjects including slavery, abolitionism, the Civil War, and interactions between Indigenous populations and white settlers.

The organization responsible for publishing the database stated that it demonstrates the Trump administration’s attempt to “use your public lands to erase history and undermine science.”

A representative for the US Department of the Interior, the agency overseeing federal lands and national parks, informed Reuters that the records were “edited before being inappropriately and illegally released to the media in ways that misrepresented the status of this effort.” The official characterized them as “draft, deliberative internal documents [which] are not a representation of final action taken by the department.”

“Employees who altered internal records and leaked in an effort to hurt the Trump administration will be held accountable,” the spokesperson concluded.
